Karl Rove, the senior adviser to the last GOP president, has been helping the Trump reelection effort as an unpaid and informal role.
“Bush’s brain,” as Rove is known, is in regular touch with both Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale and White House adviser Jared Kushner.
The pairing is a bit awkward considering Trump’s long-standing animus to his two most recent GOP presidential predecessors.
Aside from keeping Republicans in the White House, GOP insiders say Rove’s incentive for linking up with the Trump campaign is to keep his name relevant for the next batch of the party’s presidential candidates in 2024.
