Meghan Markle and Prince Harry officially announced via their Instagram and website on January 8 that they were stepping back as “senior” members of the royal family and intended “to become financially independent.”
On January 18, Buckingham Palace released further details of the separation, announcing the couple would step back from their royal duties entirely and no longer use their royal titles beginning in spring 2020.
Though Harry and Meghan are estimated to be worth about $30 million already, experts say the two could easily create a billion-dollar global brand.
It appears they could already be working toward that goal. They’ve reportedly laid off their UK staff, made a February appearance at a JPMorgan event in Miami, and held talks with Goldman Sachs — and they could potentially be in breach of their deal with the palace.
