While sorting through more than 12 tons of trash, a Mount Everest cleaning crew also discovered four human corpses, reports HuffPost.
The bodies were found during a 45-day period of cleaning, and they were taken to a Kathmandu hospital for identification.
The discovery comes amid a deadly climbing season that has claimed 11 lives so far. The season has also been one of Everest’s busiest, with a record number of permits to climb the summit issued. More than 300 climbers have died on Mount Everest since 1953, writes The Associated Press.
While cleaners successfully removed more than 24,000 pounds of trash during the cleaning campaign, they say there is still more to be collected.
